Were You Ever a Dungeon Master?

06 Mar 2008

This line from Slate brought a smile to my face as I recalled nervously describing a band of orcs to a group of my acne-scarred, Doctor Pepper- and pepperoni pizza-addled junior high friends:

Becoming a dungeon master, the equivalent of a Ph.D. in geekery, gave me a sense of mastery and accomplishment, not to mention my first real leadership experience.

It’s funny because it’s true!

Somewhere I may still have a couple of my hand-painted lead miniatures, although my meticulously-drawn hex maps, detailed in multi-color marker and mechanical pencil, are long gone.

Thanks for the memories, Gary!
